Scotland – River Dee

The River Dee in Scotland is one of the world’s best-known salmon rivers for fly fishing.

Here we find much of the history behind modern salmon fishing. Classic pools lie one after another, and the river has a calm and atmosphere that makes many people return year after year.

It was also here that A.H.E. Wood developed his floating-line fishing for salmon with greased lines around 1920. This helped set a new standard for the modern fly fishing for salmon we know so well today.

2instincts has more than 25 years of experience with salmon fishing in Scotland and on the River Dee. We are most at home in Middle Dee, and this is where we return year after year.

We have access to fine fishing stretches that have delivered good catches over time. An experienced ghillie, together with a tour leader and guide from 2instincts, means you will always receive advice on choice of flies, lines, rods and pools based on the day’s conditions in the river.

There is plenty of space here. We plan the fishing so that you always start in an unfished pool.

Lunch is served by the river in one of the classic lunch huts. If the walls of these huts could talk, we would hear stories about flies, rods, salmon, whisky and the people who have fished the Dee through generations.

We have visited the River Dee for the classic spring fishing for many years. In recent years we have also fished the Dee in summer, and that has been very exciting too.

Catches during the summer fishing in June and July have been encouraging in recent years. This makes these weeks especially interesting for fly fishers who want to experience the Dee at a fine time of year.

The River Dee is 100% catch and release.

Salmon fishing instruction is included in the package and adapted to the participants. We go through practical fishing, fly choice, line choice, casting and how we fish the different pools according to the conditions.

The journey normally starts on arrival at Aberdeen Airport. From there we arrange transport onwards to the lodge.

The fishing package normally includes transport from Aberdeen Airport to the lodge and back, full board and accommodation, a ghillie on one of our beats, guiding, salmon fishing tuition, tour leader and instructor from 2instincts throughout the stay.
